Andy Ruiz Jr. wants to see David Benavidez boxing in the heavyweight division if he doesn’t get a fight against Canelo Alvarez.
Benavidez has campaigned for a fight against Alvarez, but the Mexican player has not shown much interest in the fight. If the fight doesn’t happen, Ruiz Jr. says he would like to see Benavidez move up to the heavyweight division because he believes the undefeated boxer could succeed in the heavyweight division.
“I think David [Benavidez] can do anything because he’s big, he’s strong,” Ruiz told FightHub TV about the 27-year-old player (via Boxing Scene). “I mean, this is his first time fighting [light-heavyweight] in his last fight, but it just takes time, he’s still very young. Hopefully, if he goes to heavyweight, he gives me the opportunity to fight him. He could [move up to heavyweight]. If he walks around, his weight might be around 200 pounds. I’m pretty sure he feels strong, but he’s a very talented kid.”
Andy Ruiz Jr. will return to the ring on August 3 against Jarrell Miller in his first fight in 23 months and in return, the former champion is eager to come back and continue building his legacy.
“I’m very excited to be back,” said Ruiz. “I know it’s been a long time, but a lot of things happened for a reason, and we’re here now. I’m very excited to continue my mission and continue my path. I have to continue my legacy. I made history against Joshua. I made mistakes. I learned through the ups and downs and rollercoaster of life. I feel like this is also redemption right now. I’m very motivated and excited. Most importantly, I’m hungry. I’m thirsty for success and to become a two-time heavyweight champion.”
Ruiz Jr. recently scored a victory over Luis Ortiz and before that, he scored a win over Chris Arreola to get back into the win column after losing to Anthony Joshua.
